Before we take a look at what is consider normal hair shedding we need to look at our hair in general. The average head of hair has about 100,000 to 150,000 hairs, which grows about a half an inch per month. Hair in general is growing because of the rapid cell division that takes place at the base of the follicle in our scalps and then becomes pigmented when it is forced up and out of the follicle.

Normal hair shedding or alopecia, is a natural part of our hairs life cycle, age, androgens and genetic factors play a role in our normal hair loss. There are some other factors that can also play a role in hair loss like suffering from bad health, medication side effects, and skin disorders.

Heredity can also play a major role for our hair loss. There are millions of men, women and children who suffer with hair loss because of heredity. Every hair on are head goes thru the normal hair growth cycle then it dies and falls out. So how does the normal growth cycle work? Its made up of three stages:

· Anagen stage
· Catagen stage

The Catagen phase is a transition phase that last about two to four weeks, and signals the end of the growing cycle and is when the club hair is formed.

Telogen phase is the resting phase for our follicle, ten to fifteen percent of our hair are always in this phase and it will last about 100 days for scalp hair.

Having normal hair loss is not a reason to panic, but on the other hand if you feel that you have an excessive amount of hair loss, then it’s a good idea to contact your doctor to discussed your concerns.

There are many different types of treatments that are available today and you would need to pick one  based on the cause of your hair loss.
